With the aim to increase the contribution of CEAT to the development of highly trained engineers in the global academics and research setting, the college is on the move in the development of BS Mechanical Engineering curriculum which is an addition to its current five undergraduate degree programs.
Going back, the Mechanical Engineering program has been a long-term plan of the college since the creation and approval of the Proposed Reorganization of CEAT, UP Los Baños during the 1107th meeting of the Board of Regents on 17 April 1997. Aside from the plans for the Department of Industrial Engineering at that time, the establishment of the Department of Mechanical Engineering is one of the moves for CEAT to become a comprehensive college of engineering.
Therefore, in 2019, the college, with the approval from the UPLB administration, hired two faculty with Mechanical Engineering backgrounds to head start the development of the BSME curriculum.
During the 1355th UP Board of Regents meeting on 29 October 2020, the proposal for the institution of BSME has been approved and will now be under the offered undergraduate programs of UPLB-CEAT in the conduct of UPCAT 2021. The committee was headed by Dr. Jovita L. Movillon as Chair and Engr. Marita Natividad T. De Lumen as Co-Chair and include other faculty members from each CEAT Department. (Mary Jane F. Gallardo)
