On June 13, 2025, the College of Engineering and Agro-industrial Technology (CEAT) launched a new webinar series with the theme “Low-Carbon Strategies and Best Practices.” Organized by the CEAT Interdisciplinary Low Carbon Research Center (ILCRC) in partnership with the UPLB Life Cycle Assessment Laboratory (ILCAL), the series aims to bring together thought leaders in sustainability and climate action from government, industry, academia, and civil society.

The initiative aims to foster meaningful dialogue and knowledge exchange by highlighting real-world innovations and low-carbon solutions already making an impact. As part of CEAT’s flagship Low Carbon Banner Program, the webinar series seeks to deepen public awareness, build stronger multi-sectoral partnerships, and spotlight transformative corporate and institutional practices that align with national and global net-zero goals.

Kicking off the series were guest speakers from Straw Innovations Ltd., Mr. Jay-Rness Ceria (Brand and Marketing Manager) and Mr. Laumar Alan Dave R. Gafilo (Engineering Manager) and recognized as a key partner in the push to decarbonize Philippine agriculture. Their presentation explored a range of technologies for rice straw management—such as waste heat recovery, biochar production, and waste-to-energy systems—while addressing the practical challenges of technology adoption at the farm level. Emphasis was placed on the need for robust partnerships to help scale these innovations across rice-producing communities.

The next installment of the webinar series is scheduled for the third quarter of the year. For updates and announcements, follow CEAT’s official Facebook page. Meanwhile, those who missed the live session can still watch the full webinar on the CEAT YouTube channel. (Mary Jane F. Gallardo)
