The College of Engineering and Agro-Industrial Technology (CEAT) in collaboration with the UPLB Interdisciplinary Studies Center on Food Security (ISCFS) held a round table discussion on food security on October 1, 2014 at the National Agricultural and Fishery Council (NAFC) in Diliman. The discussion which has a theme of “Marketing and Postharvest” was attended by around 60 participants from different sectors of food and nutrition.
Discussions on food security were presented by representatives from the Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PHILMEC), Agricultural Machinery Manufacturers and Distributors (AMMDA), Philippine Institute for Development Studies, Philippine Amalgamated Supermarkets Association, Sorosoro Ibaba Development Cooperative (AGAP Partylist Representative), Department of Social Welfare and Development Region IV-A, Department of Agriculture, Kooperatibang Likas ng Nueva Ecija, and UPLB’s College of Economics and Management.
The RTD on marketing and postharvest is just one of the RTD series being conducted by the UPLB ISCFS. The discussions aim to expand the knowledge base on food and nutrition security, create awareness on food and nutrition security issues and challenges in the country, determine current gaps that can be addressed through research and development and advocate policy reforms to achieve food and nutrition security.
